No More Taxes!!!

[“Neue Rheinische Zeitung”
No. 145 of November 17, 1848,
Extraordinary Supplement]

* Cologne, November 16. All newspapers from Berlin, with the exception of the
“Preußischer Staats-Anzeiger”, the “Vossische Zeitung” and the
“Neue Preußische Zeitung”, have failed to arrive.

The disarming of the civic militia has been carried out in the Geheimratsviertel,
but only in the Geheimratsviertel. It is the same battalion that on
October 31! treacherously murdered the machine-builders.[1] Its disarming
is a gain for the people’s cause.

The National Assembly has again been driven by armed force from the
Köllnisches Rathaus. It then repaired to the
Mielenz Hotel, where it finally passed unanimously, with 226 votes, the
following resolution on the refusal of taxes.

“The Brandenburg Ministry is not entitled to
dispose of state funds and to levy taxes so long as
the National Assembly cannot freely continue its
sittings in Berlin.

This resolution takes effect as from November 17.

National Assembly, November 15.”

From this day onwards, therefore, taxes are
abolished!!! Payment of taxes is high treason, refusal of taxes
is the primary duty of the citizen!
