Marx to Bertalan Szemere

in London

[London] 21 November [1860]
My dear Szemere,

Since my wife is very seriously ill (nervous fever!), I was prevented from seeing you on Sunday and from visiting you on one of the following days. Herr Borkheim told me that he saw you last Sunday.

The article in the Augsburg [Allgemeine] Zeitung, which mentions you, was written by Dr. Biscamp, a friend of mine, who lives in my immediate neighbourhood.

With the best regards from my wife and myself

Your devoted
K. Marx

The *Courrier du Dimanche* of 18 November publishes a letter dated “Vienna, 14 Nov. 1860”, which is written entirely in the spirit of your public declaration!! From the English.
