in Exmouth (Devon)

[London] 28 April 78

My dear and esteemed friend,

My wife’s health fluctuates constantly – sometimes it is better, then worse again. As soon as the weather becomes pleasanter she must, of course, leave London. In the meantime we all hope that we shall soon have the pleasure of seeing you here.

I have received a whole batch of the latest “Russian” publications – from Petersburg. They testify to a great movement in the interior.

With Bismarck things appear to be going rapidly downhill, physically and otherwise.

Yours very truly,
K. M.
