in Zurich

London, 22 May 84

Dear Youngsters,

Herewith the MS.! with the exception of the final chapter, which still needs revision. You will find that it is not fit for the open German market; consider whether it should be printed in Stuttgart under a false name or straight away in Zurich, and write to me about it. Since the Prussian schnapps!?, anything bearing my name is banned. If it goes to Stuttgart, I should not like it to be delivered up beforehand to the wise men who have their kingdom there!?. In any case I must read the revision myself, and request double pulls on good paper with a broad margin, as otherwise no proper correction is possible. Be so good as to acknowledge receipt by postcard. This evening or tomorrow I shall answer your letters; I have let everything lie in order to get this finished, and must go directly to the funeral of Pumps’s little boy, who died on Sunday.

Your old
F. E.
