Marx to Jenny Longuet

Dearest child,

I am always happy to receive a letter from you, although I regret that your old Nick steals a few hours of your night’s rest.

My health is improving with the weather; I may possibly travel to Cannes at the beginning of June and stay there for about a week. Everything depends on the doctor’s advice and on what the summer, which begins in June, will be like.

Llafarguel’s (I mean the man from Cuba’s) newspaper! has made great blunders, mostly from ignorance and the childish endeavour to “go as far as possible”.

As for the “Bataille”, I have so far seen nothing brilliant. In fact, I only know it up to No. 4; but I shall always have the time to read it!

My heart is with you and the children. I long for them. However, after a series of most unpleasant “medical” experiments, I shall not rush anything. With all this, I hope to be with you soon.

Your
Old Nick
