Marx to Jenny Longuet

in Argenteuil

Monte Carlo, 8 May 82
Hôtel de Russie, Monte Carlo

Dear Jennychen,

This Monte Carlo, from which these lines are addressed to you, is one of the 3 localities (situated side by side) whose triunity forms the state of “Monaco” (namely Monaco, Condamine and Monte Carlo). The location is wonderfully beautiful, the climate more exquisite than that of Nice and even Mentone.

Naturally, I had the comical consequence of importing the first 2 rainy days (since January) into this region; people seem to have been waiting only for my arrival from Algiers for this. Otherwise, however, I found magnificent weather the rest of the time.

As you know from my last letter, my pleurisy is done with; the bronchial catarrh can only disappear very gradually. Incidentally, the air will soon be dry and warm everywhere (what people are afraid of is, on the contrary, water shortage); the intensity of the sun’s action will prevail all the more, as the latter is covered with great spots. So, weather beneficial to me will soon be found everywhere.

As it is uncertain how long I shall stay here, I should like to know immediately from Paris where I am to find you; it would be best for me if you would telegraph here, since a telegram of 3-4 words can inform me sufficiently.

Many kisses to the children.

Your
Old Mohr
