London, 14 December ’72

I confirm my letter of the 7th inst. and send today La Emancipación with article on Bakunin, which will also contain news for you, and the International Herald with the Congress resolutions. The ass Riley has omitted the votes.

In Lodi, No. 118 of La Plebe, which contained your address, has been confiscated and Bignami, the editor, arrested. The Leipzig high treason trial seems about to be repeated there. We naturally make all possible capital out of this affair immediately; it appears at once in the Volksstaat and Emancipación as proof of whom the governments consider dangerous, the General Council and its adherents or the Alliance men. Nothing better could have happened to us in Italy.

You ought to have short reports of the General Council meetings printed in the Oestliche Post and in the American press, and send copies to Volksstaat, Égalité and International Herald, as well as one or two copies here, so that we can work them up for Spain and Italy and for the French sections; the Danes and Dutch would also carry them.

The authorisation for Serraillier becomes more necessary every day. The Jura people here, the Blanquists there, are stirring throughout France and making progress, and Serraillier is already receiving no more answers from various quarters because he can only write as a private individual. If you, out of consideration for Dereure, who since the withdrawal of the Blanquists has become more than suspicious, or for any other considerations, continue to postpone the matter, we shall lose a large part of France, and at the next Congress the tables will be turned.

In haste.
Your F. E.
