[London, not before 14 August 1871]

Dear Citizen,

First of all, I do not have Mr Bigot’s address to write to him directly, and then I consider it safer to send the letters to him through you.

In the rush I did not have at hand* the German newspapers relating to the Lefaivre incident, but in the number of the *Volksstaat* (which appears in Leipzig and is edited by Liebknecht) Mr Bigot will find Lefaivre’s letter, together with editorial comments on it. By the way, the persecutions of Liebknecht and Bebel are well known to the public.

In No. 63 of the *Volksstaat* (of 5 August 1871) (see the passage marked by me) Mr Bigot will see that the trial of Liebknecht, Bebel, etc., for preparation for high treason is proceeding, and Lefaivre’s letter plays a role among the documentary evidence.

For the defence of Jourde I enclose the statement of an Englishman, Mr Wm. Trate, on the burning of the Ministry of Finance.

I shall write to Willebrord to keep the things received from Mr Bigot.

With fraternal greetings,
K. M.
