Manchester, 2 April 1869

Dear Mohr,

I cannot write to you much today, as for some time I have had a chronically inflamed eye (mild) and can only do the most essential work.

Man proposes, woman disposes! Yesterday evening I had got together a heap of “Zukunfts” for you, and also B. Becker on Lassalle, but this morning the room was swept out, and so I forgot about them. Incidentally, the *Zukunft* has carried the Lugau story in its feuilleton section.

Wilhelm’s stupidities surpass everything. Bebel’s cry of fear was truly touching. As you will see from the *Zukunft*, his friends in Hanover, the particularists, voted in the Lüneburg election against Yorck (Lassallean) and for the National Liberal. Against the workers the scoundrels are all united, but that doesn’t trouble Liebknecht. I am very curious to see the dreadful debate.

As for “Vogt”, I would, if I were you, write directly to Hirsch in Berlin. That way you would finally get to the proper source.

Lizzie is better, but may not go out yet and is being heavily fed up. How’s Mrs Lafargue?

Best greetings.

Yours,
F. E.
