I, Modena Villas, Maitland Park,

Haverstock Hill, London
Sir,

I had applied to the firm Frank, the book publisher, in order to obtain the amount due to me; the new owner, Mr Vieweg, has referred me to you, since you are the successor of Mr Frank. Would you kindly remit to Mr Paul Lafargue, the bearer of this letter, the amount for the sale of my pamphlet: “Philosophie de la Misere etc. contre M. Proudhon”* from the time when Mr Frank or rather the firm of Mr Frank was transferred.

I have the honour to salute you
Karl Marx
Mr. Bassot, 58, rue de Bondy, Paris
