The Last Free Corps Men

Friedrich Engels (1849-01-14)

* Bern, January 8. The local high court has in the second instance sentenced
No. 195, January 14, 1849
Neue Rheinische Zeitung.
Messrs J. Ph. Becker and H. Hattemer of Biel, the former to one year’s,
the latter to six months’ banishment from the canton, for founding
the military league “Help Yourself”. The other accused have been
acquitted. Thus the famous affair of the much-discussed third
free-corps expedition has come to an end, and the Central Authority
can once again devote all its precious time to the German emperor
question and the German fleet. God bless its arduous efforts for
the salvation of the “common fatherland”.
