Dear Fred,

Returned a few 24 hours ago. So only these preliminary lines to announce it.

Enclosed a letter from little Wilhelm. I have sent him the 5 stamps requested.

As regards B. Becker, I only saw his filth upon my arrival here. Thought it nevertheless necessary to reply. (Rüstow and Herwegh have replied for the “Hatzfeldt” in the “Nordstern”. R. calls B. B. a “spy”.) Sent it to the Rhineland and Düsseldorf. As soon as a copy arrives, one will be sent on to you.

This evening, for the first time in 3 weeks, I shall again attend a sitting of the “International”. In the meantime, revolutions have taken place. Le Lubez and Denoual have resigned, Dupont appointed French Secretary. As a result of the intrigues of Le Lubez and particularly those of Major Wolf, who is a tool in Mazzini’s hand, the Italian delegates Lama and Fontana have resigned. Pretext: Lefort (who meanwhile announced his resignation in the journal L’Association) had to retain his post as defender general in the Paris Press. The Italian working men’s Club has not resigned from the Society, but no longer has any representative on the Council. Meanwhile I shall lay counter-mines against Herr Mazzini through Bakunin in Florence. The English shoemakers’ Union — 5,000 strong — joined the Society during my absence.

How goes the cotton crisis? I want information on that point.

In great haste,
Yours,
K. M.
