Retreat of the Austrians – Rumours

Innsbruck. The *Tiroler Bote* of 13 June confirms our report of yesterday concerning the occupation of Rivoli by the Piedmontese troops. It writes: “A private letter just received, dated Trent, 11 June, contains the following: Since today the passage between Trent and Roveredo is also blocked. As can reasonably be supposed, Rivoli is occupied by the enemy and the bank of the Etsch is in danger of being taken from our troops. Everything points to this. Around the frontiers of Tyrol the number of the enemy corps is increasing, and these appear to be in the most open danger of being crossed. Detachments of infantry are just now marching towards Judicaria, Valsugana and Roveredo. The riflemen are advancing. The staff of the Baden Regiment has been withdrawn from Roveredo to Trent, in short – sudden, general movements. Even the mobilisation of the convalescent soldiers here is to be arranged. The people of Trent are putting on happy faces.
– The *A. A. Z.* has it written from Verona that Treviso has capitulated and Radetzky has taken Vicenza. It itself doubts the truth of these reports. The Italian regiments still serving with the Austrians have melted away by more than half through desertion, and will shortly consist of nothing but supernumerary officers.”
