Peschiera is said to be relieved.
Botzen, 30 May. Private letters arrived here with today’s post report, in agreement with the account of a traveller, that our army undertook a combined forward movement from Verona on 27 May, as a result of which the Piedmontese were driven from their entrenchments at Villafranca, Sommacampagna, Pastrengo, etc., and withdrawn across the Mincio. Peschiera, lately cannonaded and assaulted daily, is relieved; the Tyrolean frontiers are strongly occupied by the concentration of troops and rifle companies from the Adige to the Chiese, and it is likely that these troops, in support of the intentions of the main army, will undertake a movement against the area around Brescia. Lieutenant Field Marshal v. Welden already advanced with the reserve, consisting of about 8,000 men, as far as Conegliano a few days ago.
Thus reports the A. A. Z. – Hopefully by tomorrow the report that Peschiera has been taken, which we gave yesterday according to the Frankf. Journal (Milan of 31 May), will be confirmed, and the report of the Augsburg paper, we hope, will dissolve into Austrian boastfulness.
