* Turin, June 28. The debates in the Chamber of Deputies on the union of Lombardy and the Venetian provinces with Sardinia are still continuing. It is a question of accepting or rejecting the amendment hostile to liberty, brought forward by the ministry. The committee elected by the Chamber has proposed:
“Sole Article.”
“The immediate union of Lombardy and the provinces of Padua, Vicenza, Treviso and Rovigo is adopted, as voted by those peoples. Lombardy and the said provinces form, together with the Sardinian and the other already united States, a single kingdom. By means of general elections, a common constituent assembly shall be convened, which is to discuss and determine the bases and forms of a new constitutional monarchy under the dynasty of Savoy, in accordance with the declaration made by the Lombards in the law of the provisional government of Milan of 12 May of the current year.”
Despite the no small opposition which the committee’s proposal encounters, it will ultimately, as we hope, be adopted at the vote.
* Florence, June 24. The day after tomorrow the two Chambers will be opened. The official gazette yesterday contained the programme of the ceremonies. The opening will take place in the Hall of the Five Hundred, in the old palace.
