The Austrians seem to be giving up Lombardy

The Austrians seem to want to give up Lombardy. The Tiroler Bote writes: “According to perfectly reliable reports that have just arrived, F.M.L. Baron Welden has taken Bassano and Feltre. The Puster valley troops have advanced down through Cadore, so that the connection with Conegliano is open. According to the same reliable news, Field Marshal Radetzky is operating with the bulk of his army against Vicenza.” That means Radetzky is withdrawing and completely abandoning Mantua and Verona. Whether this decision is the consequence of a fresh defeat or merely the result of a position that has become untenable, news is still lacking. That something decisive has occurred is also proved by the “unexpected” arrival of Archdukes Albrecht and Wilhelm in Innsbruck. Durando is said to be marching from Vicenza against Verona and to have already arrived near Villa Novadia. F.M.L. Welden seems to be operating with somewhat more success in the Venetian region. He has occupied Belluno and Feltre, is in communication with Tyrol through the Puster valley, and sends raiding parties as far as the vicinity of Venice.
