The Monday Number

Cologne, August 3. The Committee of the United Journeymen Book Printers of Coblenz calls upon us to state our views on the wish of the German Book Printers’ Assembly that the Monday number should no longer appear and thereby to secure a free day each week for the compositors and printers.

We believe, it is true, that the hoped-for advantages for the compositors and printers will be quite illusory, since political events do not arrange themselves according to the days of the week and will very often necessitate special supplements. We declare, however, that we are ready to discontinue the regular number to be set and printed on Sunday, as soon as the other newspapers of the province, and especially the *Kölnische Zeitung*, do the same.
