Relocation of Business.
To the public at home and abroad the humble announcement that on the 23rd inst. I have removed my cap and fur business from the Vierwinden to Hochstraße, corner of Höhle, No. 66. Cordially thanking you for the confidence hitherto placed in me, I take the liberty of requesting that it may continue to be bestowed in the future, which I shall at all times honour by means of solid and elegant articles together with moderate prices.
Cologne, 23 Sept. 1848.
C. König, Hochstraße, corner of Höhle, No. 66.

The inn “Zum Schützenhofe”, situated here at Bollwerk No. 1, near the railway stations of the Rhenish and Cologne-Minden railways and the landing-places of all the steamboats, with a salon and 23 rooms, together with a restaurant and substantial tavern, is to let, to sell, or to exchange for a smaller house. Particulars from M. Sieben, Frankenthurm No. 23.

Notice.
By the Supreme Cabinet Order of 8 April of this year (Collection of Laws No. 14) the postage on paper money (treasury notes, etc.) and government securities when sent by post has been considerably reduced. It was to be expected that as a result, the dispatch, particularly of treasury notes, without declaration would cease, or at least decrease, and indeed in the public’s own interest, because if letters containing undeclared treasury notes are lost, no compensation is legally granted. That expectation, however, has not been fulfilled; on the contrary, complaints about the loss of such papers dispatched without declaration are increasing. In so far as the dispatch of undeclared paper money is only intended to save postage, it seems to be quite overlooked that the advantage to be obtained thereby, compared with the small extra outlay for declared money consignments, is almost always quite insignificant, in any case bears no relation to the danger incurred by omitting the declaration:
Thus, for example:
a letter from Cologne to Bonn, containing 50 thalers in treasury notes, weight 1¼ loths,
undeclared costs 2 silver groschen,
declared costs 2¼ silver groschen, ¼ silver groschen more.
a letter from Cologne to Minden, containing 100 thalers in treasury notes, weight 2½ loths,
undeclared costs 9 silver groschen,
declared costs 10 silver groschen, 1 silver groschen more.
a letter from Cologne to Berlin, containing 200 thalers in treasury notes, weight 2 loths,
undeclared costs 12½ silver groschen,
declared costs 16½ silver groschen, 4 silver groschen more.
The General Post Office deems it its duty to draw the public’s attention to this.
Berlin, 21 June 1848.
General Post Office. (signed) v. Schaper.

Official Notice.
With reference to our notice of 18 July of this year, the trading public concerned is hereby informed that the Municipal Council has granted the following premiums for cattle dealers at the great cattle market to be held here on Monday, 2 October of this year, namely:
1. to the person bringing the best ox to this market, 100 thalers;
2. to the person bringing the second-best ox to this market, 50 thalers;
3. to the person bringing the best cow to this market, 50 thalers;
4. to the person bringing the best heifer to this market, 30 thalers, and
5. to the person bringing the largest number of cattle to this market, 20 thalers.
At the same time, attention is drawn to the fact that in awarding the premiums, consideration will be given solely to the quality or quantity of the cattle, and that, it goes without saying, the cattle for which the premiums are awarded must be sold for slaughter on the market here on market day. It is also expected that the cattle dealers to whom the premiums are awarded will continue to visit this cattle market regularly with their wares.
The judgment of the cattle, or the awarding of the premiums, will be carried out by the butchers’ deputation appointed for the great cattle market here.

Price with black-printed title 7½ silver groschen.
This prayer book has met with particularly great approval, and since the most reverend clergy of Westphalia have provided it with a suitable preface, this book deserves especial recommendation, especially as it offers the praying Christian many salutary teachings and admonitions to worship his God and Lord in spirit and humility, to remove himself from earthly thoughts, and to find the true path of salvation, but above all comfort and relief in these times so heavy with thunder and unrest. May the contents find a good reception in the heart of every Roman Catholic Christian; then the author will be most richly rewarded.
