The News from Paris

Königsberg, 20 June. At the meeting of the local workers' association on the 18th, a motion was made to send a deputation to the Oberpräsident to ask him whether he had any, or what, news of a concentration of Russian troops on the border, and what the authorities intended to do to protect the province? The motion was adopted and the executive board was entrusted with it as a deputation; the reply was to be published in the newspaper.
The publication took place in the Neue Königsberger Zeitung and reads as follows:
We hereby inform the Königsberg workers' association, in pursuance of our mandate, that the Oberpräsident, in answer to our question, "whether and what news the government had about the massing of Russian troops on the borders?" replied, "that several weeks ago the Emperor of Russia had already informed the Prussian cabinet that he had ordered several detachments of troops to protect the borders; the deployment of the troops has now taken place, but no essential change has occurred in Russia's position towards Prussia since that time." ‒ To our further question, "what measures the authorities have ordered for the protection of the province against possible attacks by the Russians?" we received the answer, "that the greatest attention is being devoted by the government to the protection of the province."
