Karl Marx
Manteuffel and the Central Authority
* Cologne, November 24. The Minister Manteuffel yesterday declared to the Reich commissioners present in Berlin that the Prussian government would not submit to the decision of the Frankfurt Assembly to form a popular ministry, since this was a matter of an internal affair.
Manteuffel thus agrees with us that the Frankfurt Assembly’s decision on the refusal to pay taxes is also null and void, since it concerns only an internal affair.
It is indeed possible that the Brandenburg-Manteuffel ministry is helping to turn the Rhine Province into a foreign affair for Prussia.
