Legal Prosecution of the “Neue Rheinische Zeitung”

* Cologne, 5 September. Yesterday once again one of our editors, Friedrich Engels, was summoned in the investigation against Marx and associates to appear before the examining magistrate, this time however not as a witness, but as a co-accused. The preliminary investigation is closed, and if the public prosecutor’s office makes no further motions, the council chamber will shortly have to decide whether Marx, Engels and Korff are to appear before the assizes on charges of insulting Herr Chief Public Prosecutor Zweiffel and, respectively, slandering the six gendarmes.
