about the engagement of 5 June. What one does learn, however, is not such as to evoke great rejoicing at a victory. The Danes have indeed been repulsed, but they have held their ground in their entrenchments at Düppel. More than that, on the following day the Germans withdrew from Sundewitt towards Bau, i.e., into the interior of the country. We do not understand this conduct of the war by a superior army.
The united free corps, under the command of the Bavarian Major von der Tann, carried out a foray to Hadersleben, fought a successful engagement and, in addition to several captured officers, 10
also brought back to Flensburg the first cannon taken from the Danes.
The 1st Hanoverian Dragoon Regiment likewise made a foray to Lygumkloster and took a number of Danes prisoner.
