Esteemed Comrades!

I thank you most sincerely for your kind invitation to the Party Congress of the Hungarian Social Democracy, which, unfortunately, it is impossible for me to attend.

I cannot dispatch these lines without expressing my profound regret at the discord that has broken out in your ranks. I am far from wishing to interfere in matters I am neither called upon nor equipped by sufficient knowledge of the facts to decide. I can only express the hope that the Congress may succeed in reconciling the differences of opinion and ~~retaining for the Hungarian party so capable a collaborator as Comrade P. Engelmann undoubtedly is,~~ eliminating the danger of a split.

With best wishes for the success of the Congress

Yours,
F. E.
