Karl Marx

[To the Editor of “De Werker”]

From the manuscript.
From the French.

London, 31 March 1871

Citizens!

My alleged letter to the Paris Internationalists is simply, as I have already stated in the “Times” of 22 March, a forgery of the “Paris-Journal”, one of those boulevard sheets hatched in the imperial cesspool. Moreover, as it seems, all the organs of the “good press” of Europe have received the directive to use the forgery as their most powerful weapon against the International.

In the eyes of these honourable champions of religion, order, the family and property, the crime of forgery is not the least of sins.

Greetings and fraternity

Karl Marx
