26 Nov. 1868. Upon your letter of 18 August I turned to my home for information about the circumstances under which you left the business of my brothers at that time, as well as on whether there was any prospect that you might find employment there again. This information has reached me (?) and is unfortunately of such a kind that I can unfortunately hold out to you absolutely no prospect of employment there again. I am therefore returning to you herewith the false testimonial of my brother-in-law, as you call it, and from the information I have received I must indeed suppose that it does not entirely correspond with the truth, for which you can however only congratulate yourself. Yours faithfully, F. E.
