Dear Fred,

I have to pay the water rate on Friday, also Tussy’s re-entry at Winterbottom’s (gymnastics), etc. So I would be glad if you could send some £! by the day after tomorrow.

How is the Russian’s manuscript getting on??? Have a look at it and then write me your opinion. The poor devil is certainly waiting anxiously for my answer.

Pyat has finally brought off the great coup. He has dug up his German — Herr Weber? from the Palatinate.

In great haste.

Yours
K.M.

Enclosed letters from Eichhoff. He thinks Schweitzer denounced him here. Nothing of the sort. His denouncer (which he is not to hear) is Borkheim. And in order to get rid of him on this point, and at the same time to clear up the suspicion which Eichhoff’s allusion to Bismarck (in his speech reported by Wilhelm’s Wochenblatt) could indeed arouse, I wrote to Eichhoff that he had been denounced here to the General Council and should send me his defence.
