Encl. 3 £5 notes, I/V 65 551, “ 65 113 } Manchester 29 Jan 1866, “ 44 954 & the tax slips back. Under these circumstances it is essential that my return be kept secret from Borkheim, so that I need only pay him as late as possible in September; otherwise I shall be completely stuck, since you understand that I, too, have a mass of payments to make here precisely in the new half-year. On top of that, as a result of the fallen yarn prices, we must take the stock in the balance sheet at some £2,500 worse than at the prices prevailing at my departure. Very pleasant, too! When do you want part of the sheets back? Schorlemmer asked me to give them to him in order as I finished with them, but that depends, of course, on you. I have now read the thing through to the end (cursorily) and do find that the second volume is still very necessary, and the sooner you get it finished, the better. I am now going through the whole thing once more, i.e. the more theoretical part. The fellows will be amazed when they see how playfully “in this way” the most difficult points, such as Ricardo’s profit theory, find their resolution.

Best greetings to your wife.

Yours,
