Hanover, 17 April 1867. Dear Friend, Last Wednesday I left London by steamer and arrived in Hamburg, amid storm and tempest, on Friday afternoon, in order there to deliver the manuscript of the first volume to Herr Meißner. Printing began at the start of this week, so that the first volume will appear at the end of May. The whole work appears in 3 volumes. The title is: Capital. A Critique of Political Economy. The first volume comprises the First Book: “The Process of Production of Capital”. It is certainly the most terrible missile that has yet been hurled at the head of the bourgeoisie (landowners included). It is now important that you, in the press, i.e., the papers at your disposal, draw attention to the imminent publication. Send the next Vorbote on trial to Meißner (Otto Meißner, Hamburg), who may also prove useful for the distribution of your paper. I must close (more later), since Dr Kugelmann, who sends you his best greetings, wants to initiate me into the splendours of Hanover. Tout à toi K. Marx.
