6 March 1866. Dear Fred, Since I have to leave here now, I think the best thing is to go to Margate. The air there is particularly good. Besides, it is close to London in case anything should happen. Moreover, the last carbuncle has gone, it’s true, but the wound has not yet healed, so that further travel by railway would be troublesome for me. What am I to do “at large”?
