14 Feb. 1866 Dear Fred, Heartiest thanks for the first half of the £50 note. As for the ‘Wiener’, I wrote him to write to you, long since. I have declared myself willing to him for everything, except that I do not know whether I am able, under present circumstances, to supply an article for the first issue. The carbuncle dog is at work, but I hope to be rid of it in a few days. Things are going madly in Prussia. But the patience of our friends is great. If Bismarck sends them home, for the present everything will dissolve into banquets and Kappel-Klassenmann. On the other hand, a prolonged sitting of the Chamber may have an evil effect. Salut D KM
