Anton Gladbach and Joseph DuMont

bach. To this end he reprinted the declaration contained in the *Neue Rheinische Zeitung*, which reads:
"I hereby declare you to be a vile fellow until you have given me satisfaction for the anonymous insinuations which your paper constantly publishes against me for the attainment of a reactionary end and your own enrichment. A. Gladbach."
"To characterise the standpoint of Herr Gladbach," Herr Dumont observes that this announcement appeared on the same day on which two announcements *for* Herr Gladbach were published in the *Kölnische Zeitung*.
Thus Herr Dumont, who all along accepted vile, slanderous announcements *against* Herr Gladbach for hard cash, has the good fortune on "the same day" to insert an announcement *for* Herr Gladbach for hard cash. By thus impudently placing himself upon the standpoint of absolute venality, Herr Dumont imagines he is adopting the standpoint of impartiality – impartiality before money! Herr Dumont could not have given clearer or more illuminating expression to the baseness of which Herr Gladbach accuses him.
