* Cologne, 14 November. Upon the news that the editor-in-chief of the “N. Rh. Z.,” Karl Marx, had received for this morning a summons from the examining court, a considerable crowd of people had assembled in the Court of Appeal to express their sympathy and await the result. K. Marx, upon his reappearance, was greeted with loud demonstrations of approval and accompanied to Eiser’s Hall, where he spoke a few words of thanks for the people’s sympathy and stated that he had been heard only for the concluding interrogation in the Hecker affair. The former state prosecutor, now senior prosecutor, Herr Hecker, namely, believed that he had been denounced as a republican by K. Marx through a document printed in the “N. Rh. Z.” and signed “Hecker.”
