Telegram on the Fifteenth Anniversary of the Signing
(July 10, 1976)
Pyongyang
Comrade Kim Il Sung, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,
Comrade Pak Song Chol, Premier of the Administration Council of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea:

On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Korean Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance, we, on behalf of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese Government, and the Chinese people, extend our warm congratulations to the Workers' Party of Korea, the Korean Government, and the fraternal Korean people.

The peoples of China and Korea are comrades-in-arms and brothers. The Sino-Korean Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance, concluded on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism, fully embodies the militant friendship and great unity forged in blood by the two peoples in their long struggle against common enemies. Since the treaty was signed, the relations of friendship and cooperation between China and Korea have developed comprehensively and in depth, and the friendship and unity of the two peoples have been further consolidated and strengthened. The Chinese people are most gratified by this.

The Chinese people warmly acclaim the brilliant achievements of the fraternal Korean people, who, under the wise leadership of their great leader President Kim Il Sung and the Workers' Party of Korea, have scored successes on all fronts of socialist revolution, socialist economic construction, and national defense building. The Chinese people firmly support the Korean people's just struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of their fatherland and resolutely condemn any schemes to engineer "two Koreas." We are convinced that the heroic Korean people will surely sweep aside any intervention by outside forces and accomplish the great cause of opposing U.S. imperialist aggression and achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of their fatherland.

Five-Character Quatrain: Ode to the Plum Blossom*
Moonlight under a night breeze chill,
In snow the plum blossoms smile.
Spring's intent I first know,
Among flowers it blooms earliest, alone.
The heart of heaven and earth is often conveyed,
Why discuss the lofty style?
A delicate fragrance sends deep feeling,
Pure in body, not in self-praise.

Seven-Character Quatrain: Ode to the Chrysanthemum*
Unseasonal frost, the Blue Maiden bears to deceive,
Old gardens and new branches vie to burst forth strangely.
Autumn's colors cannot match the good of spring's hues,
The west wind gently soaks and shakes the eastern fence.

Five-Character Regulated Verse: Crossing the Sea on a Spring Night*
All my life I have loved the great sea,
At night, riding wind and moon like a seagull.
Feet treading the surging breakers' surge,
Heart chasing the wild goose's flight.
A thousand battles with water monsters,
A smile, I see the lighthouse.
Waving hands to greet the morning sun,
A fiery ball of blossoms blooms.

Prelude to Water Melody: Homeward Boat Greeting Sunrise*
Stars compose a melody of triumph,
Water writes free verse.
Jade flowers whirl beneath the feet,
Startled, lost in wonder.
Tonight, bringing spring with us,
We spread morning breezes far and wide,
The morning star embroiders cloud banners.
Flashing bright clear eyes,
Sunset dyes the sea's soul garments.
Piercing the heart's light,
Chasing the body's glow,
Probing the vault's depth.
Chest's surging billows roar and call,
Turbulent waves level with the sky.
I wish to take this fervent heart,
Transform it into melting light and heat,
So all seasons surpass springtime.
Warmth flows across the universe,
For all time, without end.

Spring in the Garden of the Qinyuan: Revisiting the Thirteen Tombs*
A hundred companions roaming,
Songs churning blue waves,
Dances beckoning the east wind.
Recall what one has loved all one's life:
Red crags and emerald cypresses,
The lofty aspirations of youth,
Vast as the ocean, boundless as the sky.
Deep feelings for the reservoir,
Heavy hatred in the cemetery ground,
Blood and sweat have nurtured spring's intensity.
A startling thunderclap,
Cleansing the mountains and rivers,
Laughter proclaims the rainbow.
The fierce flame of youth is blazing,
Does spring merely dwell among warm chambers and thickets of grass?
Wish the loyal heart shining bright,
Dazzling as the red sun;
Hard bones of iron,
Stronger than the green pine.
Press ahead never turning back,
Unyielding through all trials,
Prefer to scale the sheerest cliff on the precipice.
Lift your head and gaze,
Raise high the red flag,
Flutter it straight up into the clouds.

Seven-Character Regulated Verse: Thunder and Lightning*
Piled clouds abruptly turn to muffled thunder,
Rain bullets, light blades seek to kill.
Why pursue phantom dreams at the jade terrace?
Rather from fierce fire recognize true gold.
A few jade leaves turn into ash butterflies,
Once more the iron plum becomes a red heart.
Steady as Mount Tai, hand in hand,
With a carefree smile, friendship deep.

Seven-Character Quatrain: Great Turmoil, Great Division, Great Realignment*
Out of cloud cliffs and misty heights emerge heroes,
Surging, pounding, soaring to the ninth heaven.
Mighty thunderbolts pound the Milky Way,
Flames for thousands of miles blaze to scorch the sky.

The Moon over the West River: For the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League*
Domestically, a clamor of birds cawing and croaking,
Abroad, gongs and drums resound in unison.
Revolutionary beacon fires redden the whole sky,
I remain steadfast and unmoved.
Already destroyed the evidence,
Even more keep lips sealed as a bottle.
XXXX a pipe dream,
Deceiving the sky to cross the sea will not do.

Pure Serene Music: To Zhang Zhijian*
Daydreaming fantasies,
A mouthful of nonsense farting.
Make one laugh and angry,
The height of absurdity.
A bayonet on a small-caliber gun,
Makes one burst into laughter, fit to drop one's teeth.
How to come and seek instruction,
Not knowing whether it’s welding or soldering.

Seven-Character Regulated Verse: Farewell to a Friend*
A tree seed, how can it keep company with a well frog?
The eagle carries me to the ocean's far shore.
Blood flies over the Imperial Island to subdue wild waves,
Sweat pours over Dune Hill to transform into blue clouds.
At storm-wracked passes, I think of breaking a path through,
On ice-sealed summits, I must blossom.
The fiery banner waves, rushing skyward and laughing,
The red-globed earth is my home.

Seven-Character Regulated Verse: Crossing the East Sea*
Mist enshrouds the ocean into a cavern dim,
Where the crimson feathered messenger may be glimpsed.
Evening hues thick and heavy have already joined the walls,
Cries of wild geese in endless lines never break from their flock.
Mighty thunderbolts split open a new universe,
A thousand-mile east wind sweeps
