Comment on the Original Copies of Poems and Writings from the Tiananmen Incident Selected for Printing
The great revolutionary mass movement, centered on the Tiananmen Incident, in which hundreds of millions of people across the nation deeply mourned Comrade Zhou Enlai and angrily denounced the "Gang of Four," laid the mass foundation for our Party to smash the "Gang of Four." The Plenary Session decided to rescind the erroneous documents issued by the Central Committee concerning the "Counterattack the Right-Deviationist Wind to Reverse Verdicts" campaign and the Tiananmen Incident.

The "Resolution on Certain Questions in the History of Our Party Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China," adopted by the Sixth Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, pointed out: In April 1976, "a powerful protest movement, represented by the Tiananmen Incident, mourning Premier Zhou and opposing the 'Gang of Four,' swept across the whole country. In essence, this movement was a show of support for the correct Party leadership represented by Comrade Deng Xiaoping, and it laid a great mass foundation for the subsequent overthrow of the Jiang Qing counter-revolutionary clique."

Refers to the so-called "Selected Reprints of Reactionary Poems and Writings from the Counter-Revolutionary Incident at Tiananmen Square," a collection compiled in the name of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. It was delivered for perusal by Mao Yuanxin, Mao Zedong's liaison, on April 13, 1976. Mao Zedong believed that the Tiananmen Incident had already been resolved and did not wish to make more of the matter, therefore he wrote this comment.
