[1] These comments were written on a report submitted to Mao Zedong by Deng Xiaoping, Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, on September 29, 1975. The report stated: “Comrade Chen Pixian has repeatedly requested to come to Beijing for medical treatment, but no action was taken. Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee has appointed him as Deputy Director of the Municipal Revolutionary Committee. In my view, he is still relatively young (under sixty) and capable. Might it be considered to first transfer him to Beijing and then assign him to work in some province? I seek your instructions on whether this would be appropriate.” In February 1977, Chen Pixian was transferred to serve as Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Deputy Director of the Provincial Revolutionary Committee.
