*Comment on the Film “Song of the Gardener”
(November 1974)

It looks like a good show to me. [1]

Notes
Printed based on a document of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
[1] This is a remark made by Mao Zedong in November 1974 after watching the film “Song of the Gardener” in Hunan. Prior to this, the “Gang of Four” had slandered “Song of the Gardener” as a “poisonous weed” and, using the media tools under their control, had published lengthy and repeated articles to criticize it. This remark is quoted in bold type in the document “Evidence of the Crimes of the Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, Jiang Qing, Yao Wenyuan Anti-Party Clique (Materials Part III),” forwarded by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on September 23, 1977.
