[1] Master Liao refers to Liao Chengzhi (1908–1983), son of Liao Zhongkai, a veteran of the Kuomintang. A native of Huiyang, Guangdong.
[2] Elder Brother Han refers to Han Xu. From May 1973 to November 1977, he served as deputy director (ambassadorial rank) of the PRC Liaison Office in the United States, and in May 1985 became China’s ambassador to the United States.
[3] Qiao Guanhua (1913–1983), a native of Yancheng, Jiangsu, joined the Communist Party of China in 1939. He served as head of the Xinhua News Agency’s South China bureau. After the founding of the People’s Republic, he held posts including deputy director of the Foreign Ministry’s Policy Committee, director of the Information Department under the General News Directorate, assistant minister of foreign affairs, vice-minister and minister of foreign affairs, and adviser to the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. He was elected a member of the Central Committee at the Eleventh National Congress of the CPC. He died of illness in Beijing on 22 September 1983.
