Notes
〔1〕 Bian Zhiqiang and Zhang Zuoliang of the Zhongnanhai Clinic wrote a report to Ye Jianying and other central leaders on November 11, 1972, stating: Last night, we again organized a consultation with relevant cardiologists. Everyone agreed that Comrade Enlai’s heart condition is relatively serious. The arteriosclerosis, especially the aortic insufficiency caused by aortic sclerosis, has worsened, leading to insufficient coronary blood supply and a decline in cardiac function compared to before. This requires timely and serious attention. Although we regularly study the condition and adjust treatment, the effectiveness of medication is ultimately limited. It is advisable to pay special attention to rest, increase sleep, and adopt measures to reduce work and other feasible approaches. We hope the central leadership will consider this and provide instructions. Mao Zedong wrote this comment after reading the report.
