Comrade He Cheng wrote to ask the Central Committee to handle the letter. I think he
should be given work.
Mao Zedong
June 28, 1972

[1] He Cheng, formerly the president of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences of the
Chinese People's Liberation Army, was persecuted by the Lin Biao counter-revolutionary
group during the Cultural Revolution. On June 26, 1972, he wrote a letter to Mao Zedong
requesting a job assignment. Mao Zedong wrote this comment after reading the letter. After
receiving Mao Zedong's instruction, the General Political Department of the Chinese
People's Liberation Army appointed He Cheng as the deputy director of the General Logistics
Department. On January 17, 1973, the letter was reported to the Central Military
Commission. After being reviewed by all comrades at the Military Transformation Office
Meeting, it was returned to the General Political Department in August 1973. On March 22,
1975, He Cheng's daughter He Lirong wrote another letter requesting that her father be
assigned a job. Mao Zedong wrote two more comments after reading the letter. Soon after,
He Cheng became the first deputy director of the General Logistics Department.
