I traveled south for ten thousand miles,
And unwittingly recalled ancient emperors.
Their might over all within the seas still leaves a lingering air—
Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Yang of Sui, Kangxi.
Those men built their achievements for themselves;
I now toil for the state and the commonwealth,
Smashing the bureaucratic machine to pieces,
Lashing out at the bourgeoisie.
