I have read both and find them very good. Upon your return, please print and distribute the
Tsinghua Experience and the Shanghai Minutes. After review by all comrades in the Politburo
and discussion and revision, they can be published. Furthermore, regarding the reform of
liberal arts education, how should we proceed? Could Shanghai convene a symposium?
Please discuss this with Comrade Chunqiao [2].
Mao Zedong,
June 5

[1] These documents refer to "Striving for the Establishment of a Socialist University of
Science and Technology" and "Minutes of the Symposium on the Educational Revolution at
Shanghai University of Science and Technology," submitted by Yao Wenyuan, a member of
the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Deputy Director of the Shanghai
Revolutionary Committee. The former, written by workers stationed at Qinghua University
and members of the PLA Mao Zedong Thought Propaganda Team, focused on how to follow
the Shanghai Machine Tool Factory's path of training technicians from among its workers
and establish a socialist university of science and technology. The "Minutes of the
Symposium on the Educational Revolution at Shanghai University of Science and
Technology" described the symposium on educational revolution at universities of science
and technology held in Shanghai on June 2, 1970. The meeting primarily addressed two
issues: first, reflections and opinions on the summary of the educational revolution at
Qinghua University; and second, the experiences and insights gained from educational
revolution at relevant universities and factories in Shanghai, as well as issues requiring
research and discussion. These two documents were later published in the eighth issue of
Red Flag magazine on July 21, 1970, and in the People's Daily on July 22, 1970.
[2] Chunqiao, namely Zhang Chunqiao, was then a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC
Central Committee and director of the Shanghai Revolutionary Committee.
