Jiang Qing [2] is not required to serve as Honorary Principal.

[1] This comment was written in a letter Zhou Enlai sent to Mao Zedong and others on
January 22, 1970. The letter stated: "According to the two letters sent by Comrade Jiang
Qing, discussions were held at the relevant Politburo meeting on the 21st. Comrade Jiang
Qing also explained that the May 7th Art School currently under preparation is intended to
be located in Beijing, using the former Labor University as its campus. There are over 400
acres of farmland nearby, which can be used for agricultural labour training. At the same
time, a Shanghai May 7th Art School is also planned to be established in Shanghai."
"Regarding the organizational structure, academic system, enrolment plan, and leadership of
the Beijing May 7th Art School, we agree with the opinions put forward in the two reports.
Chairman, please give your approval on whether it is appropriate." The January 21 report of
the May 7th Art School Provisional Preparatory Committee, which Zhou Enlai attached,
proposed that Jiang Qing be appointed Honorary President of the Art School and Xie Fuzhi
(then a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the
State Council, and Director of the Beijing Municipal Revolutionary Committee) be appointed
Honorary Political Commissar.
[2] Jiang Qing was then a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
