Editorial Draft of <Red Flag> Magazine
Instructions on <On Summarizing Experience> [I]
(March 1969)

To be published after discussion at the meeting.

[I]
The original title of this editorial draft of <Red Flag> magazine was "Summarizing Experience." Mao Zedong changed it to "On Summarizing Experience" when reviewing it and wrote this instruction. In addition, he made some textual modifications to this editorial draft, mainly changing "The revolution is advancing. The situation is very good. The enthusiasm of the broad masses of people is very high" to "The revolution is advancing. The situation is good. The enthusiasm of the broad masses of people is high"; removing the 10 characters "with great proletarian genius" from the sentence "Chairman Mao highly values the creativity and wisdom of the masses, and scientifically generalizes and summarizes the fundamental and universally significant advanced experiences of the masses in theory with great proletarian genius"; and changing the sentence "Chairman Mao's extremely important instruction should arouse the high attention of leading comrades at all levels, and be earnestly studied and earnestly implemented" to "Chairman Mao's instruction should arouse the attention of leading comrades at all levels, and be earnestly studied and earnestly implemented." This editorial was published in the combined third and fourth issues of <Red Flag> magazine published on March 14, 1969, and reprinted in <People's Daily> on March 15.

It is necessary to earnestly summarize experience [I]
(1969)

It is necessary to earnestly summarize experience.

When going to a unit to understand the situation, it is necessary to understand the entire process of the movement, how it started, how it developed later, how it is now, how the masses did it, how the leadership did it, what contradictions and struggles occurred, what changes these contradictions underwent later, what developments have taken place in people's understanding, and find out the inherent laws from them.
