Comrade Huang Yongsheng [3], please handle this matter, which contains Directive [2].

All old comrades and their family members related to the February Adverse Current should not be criticized, and the matter should be handled well.

Mao Zedong
January 3

[1] The so-called "February Adverse Current" refers to the strong criticisms made by leading comrades of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, such as Tan Zhenlin, Chen Yi, Ye Jianying, Li Fuchun, Li Xiannian, and Xu Xiangqian, around February 1967, at some meetings (mainly the Central Political Bureau meeting held in Huairentang, Zhongnanhai in February and the Central Military Commission meeting held earlier at the Jingxi Hotel), representing the will of the broad masses of Party members and the people, against the erroneous practices of the "Cultural Revolution," and their righteous and awe-inspiring struggle against the Lin Biao and Jiang Qing clique. After the Lin Biao counter-revolutionary group was smashed, on November 14, 1971, Mao Zedong pointed out when receiving personnel from the Chengdu area symposium: "This matter has been clarified, don't talk about the 'February Adverse Current' anymore." After the Jiang Qing counter-revolutionary group was smashed, the CPC Central Committee made a decision to rehabilitate the "February Adverse Current."

[2] That is, Document Two in this collection. This directive was written on the material submitted by the Office of the Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee on December 26, 1968, reflecting the current situation of Xu Xiangqian (then Vice Chairman of the Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee).

[3] Huang Yongsheng, then Director of the Office of the Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee and Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

On January 25, 1969, Mao Zedong and Lin Biao received "revolutionary fighters" from all over the country.
