(August 13, 1968)

　　“Several words were deleted”

In two instances within the request-for-instructions report, there was reference to the hope that the party would resolve its internal differences “on the principles of Marxism, Leninism, and Mao Zedong Thought.” In both cases, Chairman Mao deleted the phrase “Mao Zedong Thought.”

--- Notes

[The MCP’s chairman, Musa Ahmad, was Malay. Since the MCP was predominantly composed of Chinese members, while Malaysia itself had a Malay majority, the party later appointed this Malay figure as a symbolic chairman. In 1968, Musa submitted a memorandum to the MCP’s foreign delegation and subsequently circulated widely a signed article titled “Upholding Mao Zedong Thought Is the Road to Victory for the People’s Revolution in Malaya,” openly exposing internal party divisions and consequently being removed from his post. In January 1981, Musa and several others appeared on Malaysian state television to issue a public statement of surrender, formally breaking away from the MCP. The International Department of the CPC Central Committee advised Musa that the CPC has consistently refrained from interfering in the internal affairs of fraternal parties, and that ideological differences should be resolved within the party on the basis of Marxist–Leninist principles; it also stated that the article would not be suitable for publication. The International Department further suggested informing Chen Ping about the matter. This report was forwarded by Kang Sheng to Chairman Mao on July 2. After Chairman Mao made revisions to it, Kang Sheng returned the document to the International Department on August 13.]
