**Notes**
〔1〕 Refers to two brief reports published in *Army Newspaper Life*, Issue No. 292, compiled by the General Editorial Office of the *Liberation Army Daily* on August 10, 1968: *Some Opinions from Representatives of Ten Army Units on Running the "Liberation Army Daily" Well* and *Hopes of Coastal and Border Defense Officers and Soldiers for Running the Newspaper Well*. These reports respectively covered the forum held by the *Liberation Army Daily* on July 28, 1968, inviting representatives from ten army units to discuss how to improve the *Liberation Army Daily* in the future, and the forum held on August 2, inviting comrades from the Tibet Military Region, the Fuzhou Military Region, and the Navy to discuss the same topic.
〔2〕 In *Some Opinions from Representatives of Ten Army Units on Running the "Liberation Army Daily" Well*, one point stated: "We hope the 'Ideological Front' will be restored soon." Mao Zedong underlined the four characters "Ideological Front" and wrote this comment. "Ideological Front" was a column previously run by the *Liberation Army Daily*, later discontinued. The four characters "Ideological Front" were inscribed by Mao Zedong.
〔3〕 In *Some Opinions from Representatives of Ten Army Units on Running the "Liberation Army Daily" Well*, two points stated: "Reporters rarely go to the front lines of the 'Three Supports and Two Armies,'" and "It is very difficult to find people at the *Liberation Army Daily*." Mao Zedong underlined both points and wrote this comment.
