　　[Anzai Koji was then a secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Japanese Communist Party. Anzai and others argued that Japan could not follow the path of surrounding the cities from the countryside, and raised the question of whether Chairman Mao’s relevant discussions in “On Protracted War” published in 1938 remained valid. This instruction was written in November 1967, but Yao Wenyuan read it aloud to Anzai and his colleagues during their conversation on December 1, 1967, as cited in “Record of Yao Wenyuan’s Conversation with Anzai Koji of Japan.”]
