(September 22, 1967)
Mao Zedong (hereafter referred to as Mao): You are Ji Dengkui, an old friend.
Liu Jianxun: He was locked up for four months and struggled against for four months.
Mao: Would you say there was no benefit at all?
Ji Dengkui: There was great benefit.
Mao: That was orchestrated by Wen Minsheng, Zhao Wenfu, and He Yunhong.
Mao: (Asking Comrade Wang Xin) When did you come to Henan?
Mao: When I passed through Zhengzhou last time, I saw a big slogan that said, "The overall situation is settled, the February Seventh will surely triumph."
Mao: The situation in Henan is very good.
(When the report mentioned that some revolutionary cadres have stepped forward in various places)
Mao: This is a good deed done by He Yunhong! He Yunhong is so formidable!
(When the report mentioned arming cadres for training in Beijing)
Mao: Good people must also be sent for the training.
(When the report covered the situation in Kaifeng, where the chemical fertilizer plant advocated fighting, while we advocated not fighting and strengthening the political offensive)

On September 22, 1967, Mao Zedong inspected the "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution" in Henan and received Liu Jianxun, Wang Xin, and Ji Dengkui. Accompanying the reception were Yang Chengwu and Zhang Chunqiao. These are Mao Zedong's instructions as conveyed by Liu Jianxun on September 26, 1967.

Mao: It is not good to disregard the policy on prisoners. Work must be done on the August 24 prisoners. I approve of your approach.
(When the report mentioned that a minority of people pay little attention to policy, fire weapons recklessly, and sometimes kill people)
Mao: When the masses all rise to discuss it and disapprove of them, and the masses rise to oppose them, then it will come to an end.
Mao: The slogan of seizing a small handful within the army won't last long. It is no longer as popular now. They do not support the army; once they support the army, they lose their target!
Wang Xin: The main thing is to theoretically refute their erroneous thinking.
Mao: Correct!
