Directive on the Central Cultural Revolution Group's Opinions Regarding Propaganda Work for the 25th Anniversary of the Publication of "Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art" [I]
(May 9, 1967)

To Comrade Chen Boda:
[I]
This directive was written on the draft opinion submitted for review on May 8, 1967, by Chen Boda, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Central Cultural Revolution Group. The draft opinion suggested that propaganda work in May should focus on the "Talks," organizing performances, propaganda, and commemorative activities. The specific content is as follows:
(1) All newspapers should republish Chairman Mao's "Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art," "Letter to the Yan'an Peking Opera Theatre After Seeing 'Forced Up Liangshan,'" and Chairman Mao's important instructions on literature and art since the criticism of "The Life of Wu Xun" in 1951.
(2) Publish editorials and articles commemorating the "Talks," focusing on organizing several weighty critical articles, and organizing forums for workers, peasants, and soldiers.
(3) Publish and publish the scripts of revolutionary model operas and other revolutionary literary and artistic creations. Organize revolutionary literary and art workers to write about their experiences in studying the "Talks," and vigorously publicize the great victory of Chairman Mao's literary and art line.
(4) Publish "Summary of the Forum on Literary and Art Work in the Armed Forces Convened by Comrade Lin Biao on Behalf of Comrade Jiang Qing" and Jiang Qing's speech at the National Revolutionary Modern Peking Opera Festival in 1964.
(5) Hold a mass rally on May 23 to commemorate the "Talks."
(6) From May 10 to 31, major cities across the country should organize celebration activities, perform revolutionary model operas and revolutionary films, and widely carry out mass amateur literary and artistic performance activities.
(7) Take out a batch of poisonous weed films for screening for the purpose of criticism.

Suggest a meeting be held to discuss and decide. If everyone agrees, I have no objection.
