1. Do not revise the annotations for now, and do not delete any of these names—they are all part of history. Without Sima Yan, Sima Shi, and Sima Zhao, how could there be a "History of the Jin"?

2. The "Resolution on Certain Questions in the History of Our Party" was not well written and may be omitted.

3. The passage quoting Liu Shaoqi in "Rectify the Party’s Style of Work" is unnecessary and may be deleted.

4. The new printing of the *Selected Works of Mao* shall retain the original dates.

5. As for Volumes V and VI of the *Selected Works of Mao*, we shall discuss them a year from now. At present, you have no time, and neither do I.

6. The passage quoting Liu Shaoqi on page 208 of the *Quotations* shall also be deleted; the title on page 208, "Cultivation of Ideological Consciousness," shall be changed to "Correcting Erroneous Thinking."

This is historical material. It has undergone many changes since then, and it is hardly possible to keep up with all the revisions. It seems better to leave it unchanged. Some annotations may perhaps be deleted, but the main text should not be altered.
